Hancock Elementary provides school counseling to its students to support their success in the areas of academic, social/emotional, and college/career development. Our counseling center is located in the main office and provides ample space for students to participate in small groups during recess and lunch, receive individual counseling, play games to build social skills, utilize tools for self-regulation, or just take a break. The counseling center also includes a conference room for parent meetings, student mediation, SST and 504 meetings, and much more.

About Our Counselors
School Counselor - Kristen MacMaster
I facilitate small group and individual counseling, working on social skills, emotional regulation, student mediation, and academic development. Students are able to meet with me free of parent consent or insurance coverage and can seek short or long term support as needed. I am here to assess and meet the immediate needs of the students as well as provide referrals for other services. I am available on campus each Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 7:45am-2:45pm and can be reached at (619) 605-3200 x3031 or [email protected].

PPS Fieldwork Student - Lindsay Grant
I am currently a graduate student at PLNU, studying to become a
guidance school counselor!
I received my bachelor's degree in
Psychology from PLNU and have lived in San Diego County my whole life. I
have a passion for helping others and working with dedicated individuals who
have the same passion for education and students. I will be working closely with Mrs. MacMaster this semester co-facilitating small groups, conducting individual counseling support, sitting in on SST and 504 meetings, and teaching classroom character education lessons. I am available on campus each Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 8:30am-2:30pm.

Marriage and Family Therapist - Trina Day
Our on-site MFT provides weekly one-on-one therapy sessions to students through Tri-Care insurance. If a student is in need of more in-depth counseling outside the scope of the school counselor, they may be referred to this support service. Ms. Trina is available on campus Monday-Friday and can be reached at (619) 302-4307 or [email protected]
Military Family Life Counselor - Mary Bello
The MFLC is provided by the military to facilitate individual and small group counseling to students to address topics such as deployment, grief, moving, and building friendships. This support requires parent consent and is highly confidential. Mostly focused on military-related issues, this counselor is available Monday-Friday from 8am-3pm on campus but can also schedule appointments outside of that time if needed. Daybreak Health - Cayley Harrell
This counseling service is provided through the school district at no cost to students and their families, but does require parent consent and a release of information.
