Counseling Corner

Hancock Elementary provides school counseling to its students to support their success in the areas of academic, social/emotional, and college/career development. Our counseling center is located in the main office and provides ample space for students to participate in small groups during recess and lunch, receive individual counseling, play games to build social skills, utilize tools for self-regulation, or just take a break. The counseling center also includes a conference room for parent meetings, student mediation, SST and 504 meetings, and much more.

About Our Counselors

Kristen headshot

Kristen MacMaster: I grew up in California and was always involved in sports and music during my school years. I earned an athletic scholarship to Point Loma Nazarene University for track and field and it was in college, working part-time at an elementary school, that I decided I wanted to pursue a career in school counseling. A few years after graduating with a master's degree from PLNU, I began working at Hancock as a school counselor. My favorite part of being a school counselor is the honest, funny, and meaningful conversations I get to have with students. Outside of work I spend time with my husband, son, and daughter at the beach and parks all over San Diego. I am available in the counseling center from 7:45am-2:45pm every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday and can be reached at (619) 605-3200 x 3031 or kmacmaster@sandi.net

Jasmine Wang, PPS Fieldwork Student: I am originally from Long Island, New York, and attended college in Boston. Four years ago I decided to ditch the cold weather and move to sunny San Diego with my now husband. I graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Communications and have worked mostly in Marketing and Public Relations. Now I'm switching careers and attending Point Loma Nazarene University for my Master's in Education, Counseling and Guidance. Hancock Elementary is my first fieldwork placement, and it has been so rewarding. I've learned so much and have loved getting to know all the staff and students!
