hancock eagleMinimum Days All Week!

This week will be an entire week of early dismissal days so that teachers can meet with parents to review student progress in the 2nd grading period. Students will be dismissed at 12:15 each day. Please be sure to make any necessary arrangements for student pick-up at these earlier times.

COVID-19 Testing Tuesday 3/23

Hancock’s weekly COVID-19 testing for students and staff will continue at its normally scheduled time of 12:30-3:00. Since students dismiss at 12:15, parents will need to bring students back at 12:30 if they wish them to be tested this week. To return for testing, check in at the main gate, give the student’s name and teacher name and they will be escorted to the testers.  This should only take a few minutes.

Spring Break Begins March 28

March 29 - April 1, all SDUSD students are on Spring Break. School resumes Monday April 4th.

Mask Update and At Home Test Kits

When we resume school on Monday April 4, all district sites will be mask optional indoors and outdoors. All other mitigation efforts will remain in place such as air filtration, weekly testing, hand washing, etc. No other changes are being made at this time.  The district has at-home testing kits that will be sent home before Spring Break. We will have enough kits for every child and regular staff member at Hancock. Directions for when to test will be sent home with the kits.

Art to Remember

This year's Art To Remember fundraiser is kicking off! All the teachers will be distributing your child's personal order form within the next week, and you will be able to order canvases, coffee mugs, keychains, and other various items with your child's artwork on it! All orders will be made online. They should arrive in time for Mother's Day in May or Father's Day in June! A percentage of all the orders made will come back to the school for enrichment lessons, art lessons, and gardening classes. Thanks for your support, and enjoy Spring Break!

Universal Transitional Kindergarten

For the 2022-23 school year every district school will be offering Universal Transitional Kindergarten (UTK). The former Transitional Kindergarten (TK) will no longer exist.  In the UTK program students must turn 4 by Sept. 1, 2022. There is no deadline for turning 5. Registration for all UTK classrooms is anticipated to start online May 2nd and in person registration for UTK and Kindergarten at Hancock will begin May 9-20. There is no advantage to registering first or online before in person. Selections are not being made by first come first served. Students who will be 5 by Sept. 1, 2022, will be enrolled in Kindergarten and may not elect to enroll in UTK by education code. More details and registration links will be provided in late April.

Moving Soon? Please Call the Office

With Spring Break around the corner, we know that some families may be transitioning to new assignments during the break. Whenever you have plans to move, the Hancock office staff needs to know dates and destination information so that your student’s records can be finalized.  Please come in or contact our office staff at 619-605-3200 and press “2” during the menu to give us your student’s withdrawal information.

Noon Duty Subs Needed

Looking for extra income? Love working with children? Hancock is looking for a couple of people who would like to learn the position of Noon Duty Supervision to watch over students during lunch and lunch recess. We currently need someone who can sub for our staff on occasion and who might be interested in a long term or permanent position next year.  We can start you as a volunteer to observe and learn the position. These sub positions often become a salaried position as our families move to new stations.  If you are interested, please talk to Dawn in the front office or email [email protected]

Set Up a PowerSchool Parent Portal Account

The PowerSchool Parent Portal connects you to your SDUSD student’s records. By setting up an account and adding your student you can view their attendance, trimester grades, and update contact information.  In addition, many district forms are starting to be added to this portal and allows you to complete these required annual forms online instead of on paper.  If you would like to set up an account, please email Dawn Van Boxtel in our office at [email protected].

Lost and Found Fridays!

We will continue to roll out the rack of jackets and sweatshirts that have been piling up in our Lost & Found. After school each Friday, watch for the racks to be near the main gate so parents can look for student lost items.

Yearbook Order Deadline April 18

Don’t miss the opportunity to order a yearbook for your student! Cost is $20 and can be purchased at  https://ybpay.lifetouch.com/rbooks and enter Hancock’s ID 13554722.  Order forms are also available in the office.
