Wednesday Dec 15 - Middle School Choice Due

5th Grade families, please remember that you have until December 15th to make a middle school choice for next year.  You may refer to this Preference Letter Packet in order to make your selection.  Parents will be notified in January of their selection.  If you do not make a selection your student will be placed at the school that has space available.

Thursday Dec 16 - Holiday Food Distribution Event

The district’s Children Youth and Transition Office in conjunction with the district’s Food Services Department has selected Hancock Families to be the recipients of their Holiday Food Boxes. Like the boxes that were handed out during school closures last year, shelf stable items will be boxed and available (one per family) on Thursday, December 16th from 12:30-2:30 in the school parking lot.  Please do not request boxes during dismissal.  Families can drive through starting at 12:30, and open the trunk for staff to place into your vehicle.  Families who walk should bring a wagon or other way to transport their box as they can be very heavy with canned food items. 

Thursday Dec 16 - ELAC Meeting

Did you know that student attendance impacts Hancock’s funding?  Come join the English Language Advisory Committee (ELAC) at our meeting via Zoom on Thursday, December 16 at 5:30 to find out more about why attendance is so crucial to our school and students and discuss ways that Hancock can improve daily attendance.  All are welcome!

Friday Dec 17 - Early Dismissal Day

This last Friday before Winter Break will be a minimum day. This means that both Thursday and Friday this week students will be dismissed at 12:15 (Kinder at 12:05). Please be sure to make arrangements for this early dismissal with your daycare providers if needed.

Student Safety - Before School Drop Off Only After 7:30

A reminder to all families that no student should arrive prior to 7:30 AM. This is to help ensure student safety, as there is no adult supervision on campus prior to 7:35 AM. Please do not drop off your students prior to this time. The gates do not open until 7:35 and the group of unsupervised students in front of the school prior to opening is growing. We cannot ensure your child’s safety if they arrive unattended this early.

A New Way to Share COVID-19 Test Results

If your student has to get tested for COVID-19 in order to return to school after an illness or close contact, please upload the test results on our new Google Form. This allows all of our office staff to access the results and makes it quicker to confirm students are cleared to return to school.  Upload Here

Are You Heading to a New Duty Station Soon?

The holidays and New Year often mean a change of duty station for our service members. This also is a very busy time for our office staff. Please help us prepare for your move and notify our office of your plans (even if they are tentative) well in advance of your move. There is a form that needs to be signed by a parent when withdrawing from Hancock and we need to prepare records for transfer to another school. You can call the office at 619-605-3200.

Yearbook Purchases

YBPay is open now for purchasing 2021-2022 Hancock Yearbooks. If you purchase before Jan 31, pricing is $15.  Visit https://ybpay.lifetouch.com/rbooks and enter Hancock’s ID 13554722. 

Illness Absences During the COVID Pandemic

Students who are sent home or asked to stay home with any symptoms that could be COVID related are only able to return to school if a negative PCR COVID-19 test result is provided to our health office, or if the student quarantines for 10 days. Students can utilize free PCR testing at drive-up centers at the District’s comprehensive high schools .To schedule an appointment at one of these high school locations, visit the district’s SDUSD COVID Status Webpage. Click on the COVID-19 Testing link and look for Symptomatic Testing.

After an illness related absence, the guidelines for your student to return are as follows:

  • Improvement in symptoms;
  • 24 hours fever free without the help of fever reducing medication; and
  • Negative PCR test (please note: rapid/antigen tests are not accepted) - please upload the test results to this Google Form or bring to the school front office before sending your student back to school. Students must get a green “cleared” pass from the front office before they can return to class.

Need to Report an Absence?

If your child will be absent from school, please be sure to report your absence to the office, not just your teacher.  You may report the absence using this google form or you may also call our phone line at 619-605-3200 and press 1 for attendance to leave a message.  Please be specific in your reason.
