No School Week of Thanksgiving

All SDUSD schools are closed during the week of Nov 21 - 25 for the Fall or Thanksgiving Break. Enjoy this week off with your family. School resumes Monday, Nov 28th.

COVID-19 At Home Testing

COVID tests have been sent home with students. The district is providing all students and staff with at-home COVID-19 test kits to help our school communities have greater peace of mind about returning to school safely after the break. We encourage students and staff to test on the last Friday (November 25) of the break and on Monday morning (November 28) before returning to campus. Testing before returning to school is recommended but not required. Additional test kits for students and staff are available at the Ed Center COVID-19 testing facility. If you test positive for COVID-19, please do not attend school and report your illness here. For more information, click HERE to read the letter sent by SDUSD Health and Wellness.

Successful Flu Vaccination Clinic

With only one day’s notice our flu vaccination clinic was able to see 80 military family members on Wednesday, November 16th.  Miss Abi is working with the military clinic to provide a future flu clinic after the Fall/Thanksgiving break if you missed this last one.  Thank you to the families who wanted one and were able to attend.

Holiday Attendance Challenge Nov 28 - Dec 16

The weeks between holiday breaks are known to be a challenging time to keep students engaged in learning. The anticipation of the longer break serves as a distraction to us all. However, it is vital that students continue to come to school every day and keep up with the classroom instruction and practice. This will help to prevent your student from falling behind when they return in January. To incentivize students to be at school during these 3 weeks before Winter break, Hancock will be having its annual Holiday Attendance Challenge. A calendar will be given to each student to track their attendance days and all students present every day will turn these in at the end of the challenge for a holiday goody bag.

District to Send Absence Reports

Starting this week, San Diego Unified will be sending monthly reports to families. These automated reports will inform you of student absences to date and help track Chronic Absenteeism. Chronic absence is defined as missing 10 percent or more of school days due to absence for any reason—excused and unexcused absences. This can translate into students having difficulty learning to read by the third-grade, achieving in middle school, and graduating from high school. If you need supports around attendance, please reach out to our school counselor, Mrs. MacMaster

Hancock’s Online Book Fair Store Closes Nov 23
