Special Event at Hancock Saturday 1/21
Our Community Schools Coordinator, Abi Avila, has been busy getting our program up and running. We are excited to see community groups already offering services for our families. On Saturday, January 21st, two organizations will be on campus offering the following:
-
STEP will be holding an “Inflation Response” Food and Diaper Distribution in Hancock’s Parking Lot between 8:00-11:30. They are encouraging families who would like to receive a box of goods to pre-register so they can better prepare. Please visit their website to sign up for a time slot. flyer

All Hancock students get free breakfast and lunch for the 22/23 school year. Breakfast is available daily from 7:15-7:40. We encourage students to bring a snack for recess time and water. The district’s menus can be found on the Food Service’s website. As a reminder, the Hancock cafeteria and office do not control the menu or what is available any particular day. The menu may change without notice due to supply, inventory, or delivery issues. Students are always welcome to bring lunch from home.

Students Absent With COVID-like Symptoms
Please keep your child home when they’re sick. There are a number of illnesses occurring at the same time currently (COVID, Flu and RSV). If your student has any COVID-like, Flu or RSV symptoms (see list), please keep them home until the symptoms have improved and a negative COVID-19 test result has been achieved. If your student tests positive for COVID-19, please complete the Reporting Tool: https://sforce.co/3HOD3ZL If you have any questions about when and what is required for your student to return to school, please contact our health office at 619-605-3200, Option 3.
Need to Report an Absence?
If your child will be absent please be sure to report your absence to the office, not just your teacher. You may report the absence using this google form OR you may call our phone line at 619-605-3200 and press 1 for attendance to leave a message any day/time. Please be specific in your reason.
Hancock staff truly cares about your students and we work hard to communicate with families about any absences. We completely understand that students get sick or have occasional days they need to be out. It is chronic absenteeism (missing 10% of school days or more) that we aim to prevent. Please let us know ways Hancock can help support challenges your family may be having that keep students out of school. Our attendance team is willing and able to discuss with families who have concerns about letters they are receiving regarding Chronic Absenteeism. Please contact our School Counselor Mrs. MacMaster ([email protected]) or our Attendance Clerk Mrs. Wong ([email protected]) to set up an appointment. If you are interested in learning about the importance of attendance, please watch this video (Attendance Works), which features parents talking to other parents about reducing absenteeism. Filmed in schools across the country, the video offers tips for parents and schools to improve student attendance. #SchoolEveryDay
