1st Flag Assembly of the Year
This Friday, Sept 15, will be our first Flag Assembly of the year. Flag Assemblies are a monthly, whole school event just after the first bell (7:50am) on the central quad. Parents are welcome to stay on campus to join our community for a flag raising, pledge of allegiance, and student recognitions. If your student will be receiving an award, teachers will send home an invitation.
Hancock Community Alert
Recently, there have been a few unsettling incidents in the housing area involving children who reported encountering strangers while on their way home from school, in the parks or while out in the community.
In light of these events, we kindly urge you to engage in a conversation with your child about safety precautions related to potential encounters with strangers. If your child walks to and from school, please remind them to stay alert and aware of their surroundings and walk with others. Many of our students carry devices and phones that could divert their attention, so it's crucial to emphasize vigilance when walking alone or with other students.
We encourage all families to please be sure students are supervised while out in the local community parks. Some of these strangers approached children even when adults were in the vicinity. Please report any immediate incidents to 911 or to the San Diego Police Department’s Eastern Division at 858-495-7900 who have been working on the recent incidents.
School Site Council (SSC) Parent Ballot (Please Vote)
Thank you to the parents who have stepped up to be on our SSC as parent members for the 2023-24 school year. Please see their biographies below and click on the link to vote.
Latrece Ventura - I believe that volunteering within my children’s schools is essential to their education, growth, and community awareness. Volunteering also shows my children that I care about their education and reinforces the message that education is the foundation for a successful life. We are also new here, and thru volunteering we can build community relations, as well as having a direct impact on our children’s future.
Megan Kelly - As a parent to 2 kids in Hancock elementary, I am eager to help and participate however I can. This monthly meeting is an area I can be available to serve. I am a full time working parent in the Navy so I understand many of the strengths and challenges in this school population from first hand experience and feel my perspective will be valuable for making well reasoned decisions for fund allocation that is inclusive and sustainable.

Donations Requested for Clothing
Hancock’s Health Office often provides a change of clothes to our students who have accidents or spills. We are running quite short of clothing to loan to students in all ages and genders. If you happen to have some children’s clothing you could donate (socks, underpants, shorts, tshirts, leggings, etc) we would greatly appreciate your generosity..
