Purple Star Designation

We have some wonderful news to share with our families: Hancock has officially been awarded the Purple Star Designation! This award recognizes our dedication to military-connected students and the unique challenges they face when moving to a new community. Whether it’s through our streamlined support from our MFLAC or school counselors, the connection our Community School Coordinator has made with school military liaison, or our campus-wide appreciation events, we want our military families to know: You belong here. A huge thank you to our staff, students, and families for making Hancock a place where every student can thrive, no matter where their journey has taken them.

Purple up Week - April 13-17

We are excited to celebrate the Month of the Military Child with a special Purple Up Week, April 13–17! We invite you to mark your calendars for a few community events happening throughout the week:

  • Wednesday, April 15 – Lunch with a Loved One (BBQ):
Families are invited to join their student during lunchtime. We will be sponsoring the first 200 parent meals. RSVP is required—more details coming soon!

  • Thursday, April 16 – Kona Ice Fundraiser:
Join us after school for a sweet treat and time to connect with our community.

  • Friday, April 17 – Purple Up Assembly:
We will end the week with a special schoolwide assembly to honor and celebrate our military-connected students.

Games and Toys Reminder

Our staff is noticing a large number of students bringing Pokemon cards to school. This has especially been a problem at before school breakfast with cards getting lost or the distraction causing students to not eat their meal. We want to remind parents that Hancock has a “No Toys” policy. Students may not bring toys, which includes this Pokemon game, to school.

Important Summer School Information🏫📋

Hancock will be hosting Summer School. The academic session runs June 4 - July 2. There will be additional enrichment opportunities through July 17. This week, all families will be getting text messages from SDUSD with a custom link for their child to enroll in summer school. It’s important to note that the enrollment window is for one-week only from March 23 - 27. If you do not see the text message by 3/23, contact the San Diego Unified School District Extended Learning Opportunities office. Their website and contact information can be found at this link. If you do not register by March 27th, your student will not be able to attend summer programming.

Registration for 2026-2027 Starts This Week🏫📋

Beginning Monday, March 23, 2026, parents of currently enrolled students should log in to their PowerSchool Parent Portal and complete the new form named Student Registration for Next Year to let us know if your student will be returning to any SDUSD school next year for 2026-27. All returning families must complete the Student Registration for Next Year form by the end of day (11:59 p.m.) on Friday, May 8, 2026. Even if you are not returning to a SDUSD, please complete by indicating this to update our records. The more accurate records are now, the less likely we will need to make enrollment/class changes at the start of the new year.  See Detailed Instructions Here.

Per San Diego Unified policy, if you do not report the reason for the absence to the office within 5 school days, even if it was for an excused reason (illness, medical or dental appointments, funeral services, military ceremonies, etc) it will automatically be changed to an unexcused absence. Please be sure to report the reason for the absence every time. You can do this 24/7 either online or by phone @ 619-605-3200 Option 1.
