Hancock Families 💜

Recent developments in the Middle East may be bringing up a range of emotions for many in our military community. From worry and uncertainty to pride and resilience; all of these feelings are valid.

At Hancock Elementary, we recognize that many of our students and families are navigating deployments, extended duties, or time away from loved ones. During moments like these, connection and community matter more than ever.

Please know that we are holding space for our families and are here to support you in any way we can.

We have compiled a list of resources for Navy and Marine Corps families, including support services, counseling, and local community organizations.

🔗 You can access the resource list here: Family Resources

If your family would benefit from additional support, please don’t hesitate to reach out. Our team is here to help connect you with resources and ensure our students feel supported at school.

With care,
The Hancock Team

Mandatory Enrollment in Parent Portal 💻📝👨‍👩‍👧‍👦

A giant thank you to all the families who have been allowing our staff to help get them set up on PowerSchool Parent Portal (PSPP). Our percentage of families that now have accounts connected to their student records has grown significantly. At this time, however, we still have over 90 families that have not set up an account. If you are one of these families, please reach out to the front office for assistance in setting this up. Your PSPP account will be required to complete the upcoming online registration and benefit forms.  Click here to view the full announcement document.

Hiring Process for Permanent Principal 👩‍🏫🔎📋

Please see the linked Letter to Community and Staff from Area Superintendent Dr. Michel Cazary regarding the upcoming hiring process for hiring Hancock’s Principal.  We will be hosting a Community Input Session on Friday March 20th at 8:00am in our Library. Please come to share your thoughts about what is important to you in the next Principal. Flyer

Hancock Harvest March 11 🥕🥦🍎🛍️

Our next food distribution will be held on Wednesday, March 11th, at the front of the school, starting at 1:45 p.m. Distribution is on a first-come, first-served basis, for the first 150 families. Please bring a stroller or a sturdy bag to help carry the food home. Check out the attached calendar for upcoming distribution dates! Calendar

Drop-Off Lane Reminder

As new families begin to use the drop-off lane, we want to remind everyone that student safety is a collective responsibility. Please keep the following in mind to keep our mornings running smoothly: Allow yourself plenty of time so there is no need for excessive speed. Wait for a signal from the parking lot staff before turning left into the drop-off lane. Once in the lane, pull all the way forward (close to the 2nd speed bump).

For their safety, students should only exit from the passenger side onto the sidewalk.

Students should be ready to exit the vehicle immediately so we do not impede the flow of traffic.

Family Friday March 13th for 2nd & 5th Grades 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦🎉🏫

This Friday, we invite you to join your 2nd and/or 5th-grade student for Family Friday in your child’s classroom. Family Fridays are a special opportunity for you to participate alongside your student, see their learning in action, and share in the classroom. Friday, February 20th, Gates will open at 1:40 p.m., and you will sign in at your 2nd or 5th -grade student’s classroom. Flyer

Give Back Friday 3/13🤝💙🏫

This Friday will be our next opportunity to “give back” to our teachers and staff. If you have an hour or more to donate during the school day, please plan to visit our Eagles Nest (Rm 702) any time between 8:00-2:00 on Friday, March 13th, to see what projects could use your help. Typically, this is anything from cutting shapes to assembling math workbooks. You do not need to be a cleared volunteer since you will not have any interaction with students. If you have a young child you are caring for and would like to bring them, there is a play area in the room to keep them busy while you work. Please contact Ms. Abi ([email protected]) with any questions. Please follow the visitor protocols by checking in at the office when you arrive. Flyer

Yearbook Feature for 5th Grade📘📸🎓

We will be featuring a section in this year’s yearbook with baby photos of our 5th grade students' adorable baby selves. If you would like to share a baby photo of your 5th grader, please send it with the student’s full name to Mrs. Reanna at [email protected].  A reminder that all 5th graders will be receiving a free yearbook this year, complements of our 2025-2026 Safety Patrol.

Care for Library Books📚❤️📖

Hancock loves books. We hope that you do too, and will help us protect our invaluable library resources and save your family from the cost of replacing a damaged book. We have sadly been seeing a rise in damaged library books. The good news is that much of the damage can be prevented with your help.  Leaking water bottles inside student backpacks is by far the greatest cause of damage to our books. Please help prevent these incidents by checking your student’s reusable water bottle for leaks. If it tends to leak, if possible, keep it on the outside of the backpack or replace it with one that is more water tight. Also, learn what day of the week your student’s class visits the library and help them remember to remove the book from their backpack right away when they get home to prevent damage. We appreciate your help!

Final Core Academy of the Year Mar 21🎓🏫⭐

Does your student have absences to make up? Could he/she use some extra academic support?  Core Academy not only provides students with an opportunity to receive additional instruction in various core subject areas, but it also gives students the ability to make up one full day of absence!. The instruction during these Saturday sessions is led by Hancock teachers.  The final session for this year will be Saturday, March 21 from 8:00a to 12:00p. We will be offering this to students in grades 2-5 only. Spaces are limited. Note that students will be provided a free breakfast snack during the session. Parents must pick students up promptly at noon.  Sign Up Link for 3/21

Returning Next School Year?🔁🏫📅

Our enrollment staff are getting an early start planning for the next school year. Please help us prepare for moves, new enrollments and continuing students by completing this quick survey about your plans for next school year.

Need to Report an Absence? 🤒

Communication with our Attendance Clerk, Ms Shauna, is important if your student is absent for any reason. Per San Diego Unified policy, if you do not report the reason for the absence to the office within 5 school days, even if it was for an excused reason (illness, medical or dental appointments, funeral services, military ceremonies, etc) it will automatically be changed to an unexcused absence. Please be sure to report the reason for the absence every time. You can do this 24/7 either online or by phone @ 619-605-3200 Option 1.
