Parking and drop-off/pick-up at Hancock

As we have new families joining us, we want to remind everyone about some important safety considerations. Please be sure to give yourself enough time to arrive at school safely and follow all traffic laws and rules, including observing the speed limit. We ask that all students at drop-off be ready to exit the vehicle when you pull forward as much as possible.  A reminder that the parking lot is for staff only.  Do not park, drop off, pick up, or “quickly” unload in the RESERVED spots facing the TK/K playground and garden. These are for staff members only. You will be asked to move. You may always use the drop-off/pick-up lanes to safely arrive/depart from school, even after school has started. 

Getting to School Safely

• If you plan to use the drop-off/pick-up lanes, please review this video on how to arrive at school safely. All of the rules pertain to both car drop off/pick up as well as those walking to school.  It is less than 2 minutes to watch and will save everyone time and frustration as we arrive and depart.  Click here:  Getting to school Safely

• Please do not park on Brumby Street.  There are signs notifying you that there is no school parking allowed, and residents have had difficulty parking in their own driveways due to cars blocking them.  

Family Friday in 3rd Grade 

This Friday, we invite you to join your 3rd-grade student for Family Friday in your child’s classroom. Family Fridays are a special opportunity for you to participate alongside your student, see their learning in action, and share in the classroom. Friday, January 23rd, Gates will open at 1:40 p.m. and you will sign in at your 3rd-grade student’s classroom. Flyer

District Announcement About Feb 26/Mar 9

The San Diego Educator Association (SDEA) members have announced a one-day school strike for February 26, 2026.  The school district will honor the SDEA strike and close schools on February 26, 2026. The make-up date for classes will be on March 9th to ensure students receive the instructional time and services to support their success. The district has created this website with more information and FAQs. 

Core Academy Cancelled for Jan 24

Our January session of Core Academy has been cancelled. We hope to restart the program in February. We will share information on that schedule as soon as it is available.

Family Game Night  📅 January 29, 2026  🕠 5:30–7:00 PM   📍 Hancock Auditorium

PTF is excited to host Family Game Night with special thanks to GCU for generously providing snacks and games to make this evening possible. We are so grateful for their support of our school community!  Join us for bingo, card games, and more!  This is a family event and not a drop-off event. All students must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.  

Literacy Group

Calling all 3rd and 4th graders—and parents!

Check out our new, FREE after-school literacy program starting at the end of February!

Students will receive a free book, enjoy hands-on crafts, and have the chance to connect with other kids who love imagination, stories, and creativity through books.

Clothing Donations Needed for Health Office

Hancock’s Health Office often provides a change of clothes to our students who have accidents or spills. We are running quite low on clothing to loan to students. If you happen to have some children’s clothing you could donate, we especially need pants/leggings/shorts with elastic waist, underpants, and shoes.  Small sizes for our younger students are especially appreciated. Please bring them directly to the Health Office. We appreciate your support!

Below are our Winter After School Offerings that are still accepting enrollment. Note: Programs are run by independent organizations who have permission to use school facilities. Registration is done directly with the organization.

*A big thank you to Hancocks’ School Safety Patrol who will be purchasing yearbooks for ALL 5th Grade students this year!  Families will not need to place an order for these. All 5th graders will receive yearbooks when they are delivered in the Spring. 

Need to Report an Absence? 🤒

Communication with our Attendance Clerk, Ms Shauna, is important if your student is absent for any reason. Per San Diego Unified policy, if you do not report the reason for the absence to the office within 5 school days, even if it was for an excused reason (illness, medical or dental appointments, funeral services, military ceremonies, etc) it will automatically be changed to an unexcused absence. Please be sure to report the reason for the absence every time. You can do this 24/7 either online or by phone @ 619-605-3200 Option 1.
