Time Change Beginning Sunday

Don't forget…Daylight Savings officially ends at 2:00am Sunday, November 5th.  Be sure to change your clocks and adjust bed times so your student will be on time for school Monday!

Make-up Picture Day 11/9

On Thursday November 9th, Lifetouch will return for make-up pictures or redos. If your student was not present on Fall picture day, or, if you want the photo retaken for any reason, please communicate to your student’s teacher to ensure they will be pulled for the photo during the morning. 

Important Information for 5th Grade Parents 

Students that will be promoted from Hancock at the end of this school year and move on to middle school, will have an important decision to make regarding their choice of schools here in the Canyon Hills Cluster. Please read the attached letter regarding the choice (due Dec 15) and upcoming meetings where families can learn about the two schools to help make the decision. Scholastic Book Fair

Hancock is excited to welcome back our bi-annual Scholastic Book Fair!. The Book Fair will be held in the Hancock library for two weeks, beginning Nov 6th.  The first week, students will preview the fair and make their wish lists with their classroom during their normal library time. During the second week, which is the week of Parent Teacher Conferences, students will shop during class time but the Fair will also be open after school from 1:00-3:00, to allow families to shop with their children.  Visit Hancock’s Book Fair homepage to set up an eWallet, shop online or get a preview of books available

Use of Service Animals on Campus

Please know that the only types of animals that may be on district school grounds are service animals that meet the criteria of the American Disabilities Act (ADA) section 28 CFR 35.104.  Emotional Support Animals do not meet this criteria.  Starting November 16th we have a parent who may be utilizing their service animal that meets the requirements of ADA section 28 CFR 35.104 primarily in the kindergarten playground area for pick up/drop off.  If you or your children who do not attend Hancock come for pick up/drop off have a severe allergy to dogs please contact the office (619-605-3200) this week so we may make accommodations. 


Upcoming Minimum Days and Thanksgiving Break

The week before we break for Thanksgiving (Nov 13-17), our teachers will be meeting with families to review their students’ first grading period progress. In order for teachers to have time to meet with all families, the entire week will be early dismissal (12:15). Please plan ahead to make any necessary childcare arrangements for the week. All schools in the district will be on Thanksgiving Break the entire week of Thanksgiving (Nov 20-24).

Yearbooks On Sale Now!

Hancock’s online Yearbook YBpay portal is now open for purchasing our yearbook. Be sure to reserve a copy of the 2023-2024 yearbook early. Pricing is currently $12 and goes up November 19th. Order at https://ybpay.lifetouch.com/ School ID 13554724

Free Eye Exams!

UCSD Shiley Eye Institute’s “Eyemobile” is offering free eye exams for children and free glasses over 3 days this month. Nov 20-22nd. See the attached flyer for locations of their mobile clinic. Limited appointments are available Cal 858-822-2585 to make an appointment. 

New Text message notification program

We are excited to share with you a new method that allows us to update you via text messages, Unified Operations Communications, or UOC for short. This platform will enable us to keep you informed about important announcements, upcoming events, and any programs that your family or students may be eligible for. We look forward to utilizing UOC along with our current methods of communication to strengthen our communication with you, the Hancock Families. 

School Accountability Report Card (SARC)

Public schools throughout California are required to provide information about themselves to the community in the form of an annual School Accountability Report Card (SARC).These report cards provide a variety of data to allow the public to evaluate schools in several important areas: demographic information, school safety/climate, academic performance, class size, teacher/staff information, professional development , and fiscal/expenditure data.  

The SARC, which follows the state's guidelines and document template, are issued each spring and focus on the previous academic year. A SARC is typically 12- 14 pages long. You can access our current SARC electronically at:  https://sarconline.org/public/print/37683386096051/2021-2022

Students Needed for Wellness Ambassadors Club

Ms. Miyasaki is still  looking for students for the Wellness Ambassadors Club at Hancock. The club will meet after school twice a month (on most Thursdays) 12:15-1:15. The purpose of the Wellness Ambassadors Club is to build a healthier school by improving healthy policies & practices. Students will work with Ms. Miyasaki to strengthen the culture of physical and mental health at Hancock.  See Details Here 

STEP Food Distributions

We understand that the holiday season often comes with financial challenges and additional stress for families. Support The Enlisted Project will be hosting a Thanksgiving Food Distribution.  To register, click the link below and complete the application; then click ‘Save Record’ on the top right corner. Weekly Produce Distributions at Hancock

One of our amazing community partners, "It's All About The Kids'', is donating Weekly Wednesday Produce for our community! This *walk-up* event begins at 2 p.m. and will be held every Wednesday. Please bring a wagon, cart, bag, etc..to carry the produce you plan to take. Do not park in the pick-up lanes. 

If you are unable to attend and would like your 3rd, 4th, or 5th-grade students to pick up please register here.

Need to Report an Absence?

If your child will be absent from school, please be sure to report your absence to the office, not just your teacher.  You may report the absence using this google form or you may also call our phone line at 619-605-3200 and press 1 for attendance to leave a message.  Please be specific in your reason.
