School Site Council (SSC) Parent Ballot (Please Vote)
Thank you to the parents/community members who have stepped up to be on our SSC as parent/community members for the 2022-23 school year. Please see their biographies below and click on the link to vote. We are still in need of one more parent/community member so please write yourself as a candidate if you are interested.
Beth Story - It's so important to me to be involved in my children's education. I am happy to help with choosing how school funds are spent so that our kids can have the best education Hancock can offer them.
Katherine Gruber - My son is attending Hancock as a first grader. I want to be involved in making sure that him and his classmates are receiving what they need. I have a good understanding of what that is. Thank you.
Karla Travieso Ayala - I would love to be part of the Hancock School Site Council because I do have 3 kids that attend to Hancock. I also like to get involved with the school activities.
Jamie Sanders - My children have attended Hancock previously and still attend schools in the district. I still volunteer and spend a lot of time at Hancock.

Smart Watches and Cell Phone Use at School
Smartwatches, including those meant for kids, that can make phone calls, text, or get on the internet are not allowed to be used during school hours. These devices are treated like cell phones. As stated in the Student Handbook, students will keep these devices always turned off and, in their backpacks, while on campus. They can only use cell phones or smart watches before or after school when outside the blue gates at the front of the school. We have seen more students using these watches during class creating a distraction to the learning environment. If you have any questions, please contact Principal Hightower or Associate Principal Salas.
Important Survey Coming Via Mail
Impact Aid Funds are designated to assist school districts that lose tax revenue due to their enrollment of students from families who live or work on tax-exempt federal properties or are active-duty military personnel. Hancock is heavily impacted with federally connected students. Due to this, Impact Aid funds become an important part of our budget to support instructional activities for all students. To qualify for Impact Aid funding, the U.S. Department of Education requires us to survey each student to determine eligibility. Therefore, we ask all parents to complete the survey every year to help us qualify. This year, the Impact Aid Survey will be coming to you through the United States Postal Service on or after October 5th and will include a prepaid return envelope. Please watch for this letter and return the survey in the provided envelope right away.
Optional Weekly COVID-19 Testing
Hancock’s optional COVID-19 testing is every Monday from 8-11 a.m. If you wish to sign your student up for the 22/23 school year, you must do it through Primary Health. Please use the Testing Sign Up link.
Students Absent With COVID-like symptoms
Please keep your child home when they’re sick. If your student has any COVID-like symptoms (see list), please keep them home until the symptoms have improved and a negative COVID-19 test result has been achieved. If your student tests positive for COVID-19, please complete the Reporting Tool: https://sforce.co/3HOD3ZL If you have any questions about when and what is required for your student to return to school, please contact our health office at 619-605-3200, Option 3. If each of us makes an effort, we can help prevent the spread of this virus.
Need to Report an Absence?
If your child will be absent please be sure to report your absence to the office, not just your teacher. You may report the absence using this google form or you may also call our phone line at 619-605-3200 and press 1 for attendance to leave a message. Please be specific in your reason.
