Symptomatic COVID-19 Testing Options

Thank you for your continued patience and cooperation in keeping our campus a safe place for students and staff. Students who are sent home or asked to stay home with any symptoms that could be COVID related are only able to return to school if a negative PCR COVID-19 test result is provided to our health office, or if the student quarantines for 10 days. We understand that symptomatic testing options can be limited, but students can utilize free PCR testing at UCSD's drive-up centers at the District’s comprehensive high schools .To schedule an appointment at one of these high school locations, visit the district’s SDUSD COVID Status webpage. Click on the COVID-19 Testing link and look for Symptomatic Testing.

Parents Needed for Two Important Committees:

Parents, we need your help!  We have two very important committees at Hancock that require parent participation.  The Site Governance Team (SGT) helps to provide feedback and make recommendations on school programs.  The School Site Council (SSC) helps decide how to spend state and federal funds on programs and items we have at Hancock. Both committees meet on separate Mondays at 2:30 and we are currently meeting on Zoom for both committees.  The SGT is in need of three parent volunteers and the SSC is in need of two parent volunteers.  The self nomination form links are below and parents may self nominate for one or both committees:

The current SSC will have a meeting on Monday, September 13th at 2:30.  The agenda can be found here:  SSC_Agenda_09292021.pdf

Back to School Packets

You should have a Back to School Packet that went home with your student on Friday. Please check backpacks for an envelope of our annual paperwork. There are a few forms for you to complete and return to school this coming week. The forms are slightly different for different grades. Read the instructions on the front of the envelope to know what to return.

In addition to the paper forms, there are two very important digital District forms we must collect from each family. Though paper versions are available in the office, the most efficient way to submit these forms is via the PowerSchool Parent Portal. Please be sure you have set up that account. If you do not already have an account set up and you do not have the instructions that were sent home previously, please email dvanboxtel@sandi.net for the information you will need to set up the account.  The two digital forms to complete are:

  • COVID-19 Testing Option Form: Submit your testing option on the “School COVID-19 Testing Option” Form. Note that a “yes” means that you agree to weekly testing at Hancock for your student during the school day.No means you do not wish to enroll them in this weekly testing. For instructions on how to complete this form, click here or view the district video here.
  • LCFF Data: The information collected on this form is private and will not be used for any purposes other than to determine if Hancock qualifies for special state funding. For instructions on how to complete the Local Control Funding Formula data, click here.

Car Drive-thru Pick Up/Drop Off:

Please note that Kindergarten will be releasing the same as grades 1-5 this upcoming week.  As a reminder parents must stay in their cars when dropping off in the morning or picking up in the afternoon.  Our parking lot attendants will assist you in order to keep everyone safe.  Also there is a right turn only when exiting the parking lot. If you are a “regular” in our car pickup line, please be sure to get a car tag from the front office or request one through your teacher. These tags greatly help our lot attendants match students to cars. Please also remember our lot attendants are volunteers and we would not have the ability to use the parking lot for drop off/pick up without their help.  Because it can get loud we do have to use a loud voice sometimes to get the attention of a student or driver in order to keep the flow of traffic moving.  It is one of the hardest jobs we have each day and would appreciate it if other parents would like to come and help out by volunteering their time.

Hancock Spirit Gear

Did you know that every Thursday is “Spirit Day” at Hancock? Students are encouraged to wear their Hancock gear or wear blue and yellow. Our PTF will be selling Hancock t-shirts at dismissal on Thursdays in front of the Auditorium entrance (left side of the main gates).

Need to Report an Absence?

If your child will be absent from school, please be sure to report your absence to the office, not just your teacher.  You may report the absence using this google form or you may also call our phone line at 619-605-3200 and press 1 for attendance to leave a message.  Please be specific in your reason.

Upcoming Important Dates
